Working together since 1998, the Wolf 359 team takes a chainsaw to language and pretension to create a new kind of American theater.
Starting with a radically old-fashioned idea—that everything starts with a good story—we use multimedia, collaboration, intensive research, irreverent humor, and a unique development process that begins in a bar in the East Village to create our work. Our subjects range from ancient Sumerian myth to contemporary political scandals, but the fundamental questions remain the same: what is life? What is art for? And where is that large automobile?
Wolf 359 shows have been presented at 59E59, PS 122, Ars Nova, 3LD, Dixon Place, HERE Arts Center, and the Tribeca Performing Arts Center in New York City. We have toured to Berlin, Chicago, Edinburgh, Dublin, and many other cities and city-states. In addition to our original productions, we run the Hearth Gods (hearthgods.com) reading series in the East Village, which has been a lab for new plays and performance works since 2005.
